There’s nothing more disappointing than a custom gas fireplace with a tired, small, less than impressive flame to go with it. So what sets our flame apart from the rest? Our flame has a large, tall, full, slow flame that can be enjoyed from afar or up close. We maximize the height of our flame while maintaining cleanliness.

With our custom burner and tray design we are able to receive a taller and fuller flame for our custom gas fireplaces; additionally, we are able to cover the burner entirely to provide a seamless line of flames. By maximizing the energy of the gas and providing more air into the firebox we are able to produce a slower, fuller flame that is less turbulent.

So how are our burners made and tested?

  • All of our burners are made with 1/2″ thick steel tubes which are thoroughly cleaned before building the burner
  • Each and every hole in our burners are hand drilled individually by our team
  • Once all of the holes are drilled, the burner is cleaned again, including each hole
  • We then blow air through the burner to remove any and all debris from the drilling process
  • Next we test the burner with air to ensure functionality
  • The burner is then placed in the fireplace
  • The base area around the burner is covered with steel mesh (which is typically covered with media) to allow the maximum amount of combustion air
  • We then install a top of the line Honeywell Ignition System on the side of our burner
    • This system ensures our flame is not only more aesthetically pleasing, but burns cleaner than typical gas fireplaces
  • The burner is then tested in the fireplace in our test lab

Every gas burner and ignition system goes through at least a one day long series of tests in our test lab by one of our fireplace inspectors. The tests are performed with the burner and ignition system in the fireplace as it would be installed on-site at it’s final destination. Our series of tests include:

  • Ensure optimal flame: color, height & fullness
  • Multiple ignition tests to ensure performance
  • BTU adjustments/improvements to ensure the correct amounts of natural gas or propane gas are used

Once our fireplace inspector completes and approves the day long round of testing, the fireplace is then reviewed, approved, and signed off by one of our Fireplace Designers who verifies all completed tests in our internal test lab before shipping to the customer.

The above video showcases an Acucraft Custom Gas See-Through Outdoor Fireplace being internally tested before being shipped to the customer. This particular fireplace was custom made for Gloucester Premium Outlet Mall in Gloucester Township, NJ. It was fully customized with dual burners, mammoth logsets, custom firescreens, and viewing areas of 81 3/8″ wide x 34 1/4″ tall x 87 1/4″ deep.

Many of our clients have selected Acucraft for their fireplace solely because of our flame. We’ve dedicated over a decade developing, designing, and perfecting our gas burners to achieve the tallest, fullest flame possible while maintaining cleanliness. All of our Custom Gas Fireplaces are fully customizable, which means you get exactly what you are looking for; from large viewing areas to circular fireplaces with curved glass, you dream it…we can build it!

Custom Gas Stacked Linear Fireplaces – Grand Hyatt – Denver, CO

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015

Acucraft Custom Gas Linear Fireplaces - Grand Hyatt - Denver, CO

Acucraft partnered with RJM Construction & Klipp PC to design and fabricate these gorgeous custom linear gas fireplaces for the Grand Hyatt in downtown Denver, CO.

The customer came to us looking for three stacked fireplaces with a super tall flame, without producing heat, to compliment the contemporary renovation of their lobby bar. After further collaboration with the client and reviewing their initial renderings, Acucraft recommended two custom gas linear stacked fireplaces with one insulated panel, our Patent Pending Glass Cooling System, and porcelain reflective panels to really create an impressive flame.

                cq5dam.thumbnail.744.415 (1) cq5dam.thumbnail.744.415 (3)

Each of the fireplaces has viewing areas of 108″ wide by 26″ tall with a 100″ electric ignition natural gas burner controlled by a on/off control wall switch. The fireplace burner trays were lined with glass media, while the back, top, and sides were customized with black porcelain reflective panels which reflects the tall flames to ensure that no matter where you’re sitting you can enjoy the dancing of the flames.

The fireboxes were constructed of 7 gauge steel and double welded inside and out, we used 4″ square tubing connected with bolts between the bottom of the top fireplace and the top of the bottom fireplace to create an even stacked look while maintaining the integrity of the steel.

We created a custom modular firebox stacking system to enclose both fireplaces inside one insulated panel, instead of two separate insulated panels, because the architect had very specific dimensions for between the bottom of the top unit and the top of the bottom unit in order to coincide with design and structural elements for the lobby bar. To help ensure that the fireplaces maintained a large flame without producing supplemental heat, we used dual pane glass with passive air to control heat output and glass temperature.

Both the fresh air intake and the heat relief had right-side terminations. The chimney and flue system was designed for over a 100′ run with four 90 degree elbows per fireplace, we needed the route of the flue from the fireplace to the end of the run in order to verify the flue components, diameter of the flue, and powervent systems. Everyone of our custom gas fireplaces is internally tested at our facility to make sure we achieved the proper flame height and appearance the customer had requested.

It was a pleasure working with RJM Construction and Klip PC on this project; we look forward to future projects!

So how does Whole Home Heating Work? Using B-vent piping you can remote duct and vent your heated air to other areas of your home; our in-line blower option allows you to vent heated air upstairs or downstairs. Another option is to connect your remote ducting system to your cool air return and use your furnace fan to evenly distribute heat to your entire home and help eliminate cold spots.

What about heating your domestic water? Acucraft’s Water Loop can be added to your fireplace and allows you to heat your domestic water, and can also be used for radiant in-floor heating systems! Whether you’re looking to heat your garage floor or add a radiant system to your driveway to help with snow and ice removal, our Water Loop is the option for you. How does it work? There’s a small pump controlled through a thermostat which starts circulating the water when your firebox becomes heated, providing supplemental heat for your water. Both the in-line blower for Whole Home Heating and the Water Loop can be connected to a thermostat mounted below the firebox, so when your firebox heats up it automatically turns on your in-line blower and water pump.

Acucraft's Patent-Pending Glass Cooling System

                           Acucraft’s Patent-Pending Glass Cooling System

Our Patent-Pending Glass Cooling System uses outside air for combustion while simultaneously pulling heated air from around the fireplace and venting it back into your space or outside through our Heat Relief System.

5. Acucraft’s Patented Airshield System: average glass temperature of 105°F*

Acucraft Patented Air Shield System

                                                                Acucraft Patented Airshield System

Our Patented Airshield System is designed to keep the outer pane of glass cool by drawing cool air from the room through the bottom and expelling heated air through the top. This system can reduce the temperature of your glass by as much as 100°F; keeping the glass cool while still providing heat to your room.

*Glass temperatures vary based on flame height and size of viewing area.

SAFETY. At Acucraft safety is always a priority; all of our custom gas fireplaces have four safety checkpoints that need to be met before the fireplace will ignite:

  • Safety step 1: when the control system is turned on it sends a signal to the Automatic Draft System which opens the damper.
  • Safety step 2: the exhaust fan engages.
  • Safety step 3: the proven draft is proven.
  • Safety step 4: the gas valve opens signaling the spark ignition. The flame sensor proves combustion.

If any of these steps fail, the entire process starts over and an error message is sent to the control box.

In addition to the above safety features, every one of Acucraft’s Custom Gas Fireplaces is internally tested to meet & exceed ANSI standards before being shipped to the customer.
