Acucraft Gas Fireplace Models
Now to showcase those luxurious flames. You’ll need to choose a fireplace model. Acucraft offers a variety of gas fireplace models:Four-Sided
- Corner Front
- Three-Sided Peninsula
Acucraft Gas Fireplace Glass Options
Next, you’ll need to decide how to showcase your flames with glass [or without glass] and with or without a glass cooling technology.
Dual Pane Glass with Acucraft Patent-Pending Glass Cooling System
Acucraft Patent-Pending Glass Cooling System ensures a tall, stable flame with less turbulence and keeps your glass a safe-to-touch temperature. This way you can enjoy the dynamic and luxurious flames worry free as your fireplace charms your space.
Acucraft’s Glass Cooling System draws cool air from outside into the air channel between the dual pane glass to keep glass an average temperature of 145 degrees F. (Glass temperature may vary based on flame height and size of viewing area.)
How the Acucraft Patent-Pending Glass Cooling System Works
The blue arrows represent cool air that is drawn from the outdoors and passes between the dual pane glass. This keeps the glass a safe-to-touch temperature. Warmed fireplace air is either transferred into your space for added heat or vented outdoors (orange arrows).
The yellow arrows represent outdoor air drawn into the combustion air intake that flows through the fireplace, heats up, and creates a draft which pushes the vented gas to the outside (red arrows).
These two systems work together to maintain a safer, cooler glass temperature, as well as provide you with supplemental heat for your space if you choose.
Single Pane Glass
An Acucraft gas fireplace with a single pane glass allows more radiant heat to warm your room. The glass can be hot to the touch—an average glass temperature of 255 degrees F. (Glass temperature may vary based on flame height and size of viewing area.) For additional safety with single pane glass, add a custom firescreen.
Acucraft’s Patented Airshield System
Acucraft Patented Airshield System is designed to keep the outer pane of glass cool. It is designed to draw cool air from the room through the bottom and expel heated air through the top. This system can reduce glass temperature as much as 100°F while still providing supplemental heat to your room.
Acucraft Open Flame Gas Fireplaces
Acucraft also specializes in open flame fireplace systems that offer an intimate flame view without glass glare and the ultimate unobstructed view!

Whole Home Heating with Acucraft Wood Fireplaces
Imagine having the option of drastically reducing OR eliminating your gas or electric heating bills this season. Imagine having supplemental heat to use at your discretion. Imagine having even temperatures throughout your home without cold spots. An Acucraft high tech wood burning fireplace with our whole home heating system makes this possible.
A Beautiful and Functional Focal Point
No, we’re not talking about an unattractive outdoor wood burning furnace. You know, the kind where you’ve got to pile on a dozen layers of clothes and face the elements to stoke the fire. We’re talking about an Acucraft high tech wood burning fireplace that is both functional and makes a beautiful focal point within your home. Plus, tan outdoor wood burning furnace is less efficient and consumes twice as much wood—it’s like taking on a second job to stay warm!
There are lots of reasons to choose an Acucraft high tech wood burning fireplace for your home, like memories made around a crackling fire. Conversation with family and friends. The dancing flames and the wood burning smell on a cool, crisp evening. Plus the fire warms your homes and your hearts.
Adding to all this multi-sensory enjoyment is the added cost savings of whole home heating. All it takes is adding a few affordable attachments such as remote ducting/502 CFM in-line blower, and a water loop to your Acucraft high tech wood burning fireplace for warm air and hot water. The Acucraft High Tech Chalet and Great Room Fireplaces include a standard 465 CFM blower and 14 tube heat exchanger. Contact a knowledgeable Acucraft Fireplace Advisor for details.
Not all Wood Burning Fireplaces Heat the Same
Acucraft has been designing and handcrafting highly efficient wood burning fireplaces for over 39 years. In fact, Acucraft got its start during the energy crisis in the 1970’s. That’s when our founder, Roger Hansen, engineered a wood burning whole home heating solution to offset electric and gas heating costs…and thus our High Tech Chalet fireplace was born.
Back in the 1970s, many homes were built with an open-faced masonry fireplace. These units were only -30% to 10% efficient. Why? Because they robbed warm air from within the home and sucked it out the chimney! Heated room air continues to be drawn up and out the flue for up to a day after the fire goes out. Even today, many wood burning fireplaces are still inefficiently taking your warm indoor air and sending it up and out your flue system—but not Acucraft’s fireplaces.
Our founder put an end to that. Hansen engineered a wood burning fireplace system that was 60% more efficient.
Efficient Wood Burning Fireplace Heating
Even the smallest Acucraft High Tech Z-MAX wood burning fireplace efficiently heats up to 3,000 square feet and generates 130,000 BTU’s an hour—that’s more than the average furnace which generates around 100,000 BTU’s an hour.
The largest Acucraft High Tech Great Room wood burning fireplace efficiently heats up to 4,000 square feet and generates 180,000 BTU’s an hour. So Acucraft wood-burning fireplaces crank out a lot of heat!
Wood Burning Whole Home Heating
An Acucraft wood burning whole home heating system is a great way to maximize your fireplace’s heating potential! With the use of remote ducting and a water loop, you can heat your air and your water with your high tech wood burning fireplace! These options are inexpensive to install and they offer a huge return.
How it works:
First, your Acucraft high tech wood burning fireplace generates heated air; then your fireplace heated air is distributed to other areas of your home using:
1) B-vent piping with an in-line blower, to vent heated air to another space or;
2) A remote ducting system to transfer the warm fireplace air through your furnace duct system to evenly distribute the fireplace heated air to all areas within your home.
3) For heating your domestic water, an Acucraft stainless-steel Water Loop is installed which may also be used to provide radiant in-floor heating or be tied into a hydronic heating system. A small pump, controlled through a thermostat, circulates the water when your firebox becomes heated, and provides supplemental heat for your water.
Both the in-line blower for Whole Home Heating and the pump for the Water Loop can be connected to a thermostat mounted below the firebox, so when your firebox heats up it automatically turns on your in-line blower and water pump.
Many Acucraft high tech wood burning fireplace customers who have installed these options have dramatically reduced or eliminated their gas and electric bills during cold weather season.
“I load wood into my Acucraft High Tech fireplace before I go to bed,” says Acucraft Owner Chris Maxson. “First, I remove the firescreen, load the fireplace with wood, close the fireplace door, limit the damper and combustion air controls, and the fire will keep my home warm all night.”
The Acucraft High Tech Chalet and Great Room Fireplaces include a standard 465 CFM blower and 14 tube heat exchanger. Contact a knowledgeable Acucraft Fireplace Advisor for details.
Whether you’re looking to heat your home in the winter or want to add more warmth on cold nights, Acucraft’s High Tech Wood Burning Fireplace Whole Home Heating Solutions are great for all homeowners!

Acucraft Custom Linear See Through Gas Fireplace
Anthony’s Chophouse recently opened in downtown Carmel, Indiana. The chef-inspired menu combines unique steakhouse cuisine with a modern fine-dining decor. A custom linear see-through gas-burning fireplace with a 120″W x 24″H viewing area handcrafted by Acucraft Fireplace Systems separates two dining areas. Now they enjoy two fireplaces for the price of one!
Acucraft Achieves Your Fireplace Design Intent
Before connecting with Acucraft Fireplace Advisor Jill Kubitschek, Architect Jeannie Marrugo of PHÄNOMEN Design had contacted several other fireplace companies. Acucraft was the only fireplace manufacturer able to achieve Jeannie’s original design intent. Jeannie had envisioned a single linear see-through gas fireplace that would burn brightly in two separate dining areas. So, she recommended Acucraft to Garmong Construction Services who was working on the Anthony’s Chophouse project.
Acucraft Works Directly with You
Next, Acucraft Fireplace Advisor, Jill, and the Acucraft Design Team worked with Project Manager Alaine Vanderford of Garmong Construction Services. Through collaboration and value engineering, modifications were made to the original design intent to fit within their budget.
After design approval, the Acucraft Production Team began handcrafting the custom linear see-through gas fireplace. Acucraft Project Manager Chad Mackrell oversaw the project through the process of fabricating, welding, finishing, performance and safety testing, crating, and delivery to Carmel for installation.
Acucraft Performance and Safety Testing
“Your peace of mind for a lifetime of happy burning is what drives us,” says Acucraft Owner Chris Maxson.
That’s why in 2017, Acucraft became the first fireplace manufacturer in the world to conduct internal quality, performance and safety lab testing that is certified by 3rd-Party LabTest Certification, Inc..

Design Considerations for Your Dream Wood Fireplace
Dreaming about a new wood-burning fireplace for your home or cabin?
Whether you’re looking for a traditional and rustic or modern and contemporary wood-burning fireplace to warm up your home or cabin, Acucraft Fireplace Advisor Mike Hannan shares some handy tips to consider while you plan for your dream fireplace.
Among the most important design considerations are:
- Fireplace proportion to the room size
- Fireplace surround ratio to the fireplace face
- Material selection and size
- Hearth height
- Fireplace style
Fireplace Proportion to the Room Size
“We’ve all seen rooms where things don’t look right—where things are out of proportion,” says Mike. “Consider a fireplace that fits the room visually without overpowering the surround that contains it.”
Many people get focused on the size of the fireplace opening. This is major dimension to consider, but keep in mind you’ll need additional room for the trim or face frames that border the fire viewing area.
Another space consideration is for the concealed connections to either side of the fireplace. Remember to add this to the overall framing width of the fireplace.
Fireplace Surround Ratio to the Fireplace Face
“For good proportions, measure the width of the fireplace opening,” says Mike. “Then plan for one- to two-thirds of this measurement to determine the dimension of each side of the surround.”
This dimension will help you determine the finished facing material along each side of the fireplace opening.” (See image below). For example, the Acucraft wood-burning Hearthroom 36″ fireplace door opening is 36-inches wide x 21-inches tall. The black face frame is 41-¾-inches wide. This gives the fireplace an even larger appearance beyond the door opening. In order to fit this unit into a seven-foot wide chase, you will need about 22-inches of stone to set on each side of the fireplace face.
If you have less width and use less facing material either side of the fireplace face, the overall fireplace looks out of proportion.
Material Selection and Size
Next you’ll need to choose the type and size of facing material to finish your fireplace surround. Stone, tile and brick are common materials used. Select a material size that can be set in multiples to avoid a single material placement (or worse a sliver of material to complete a row). This will create a consistent, seamless look for your fireplace surround.
Determining your Fireplace Size:
- Accommodating room details such as cabinets, windows and trim: If you’re fireplace fits between windows, trim or built-in cabinets, keep the size of the fireplace in mind to ensure all heights align and tie the room together.
- Ceiling height: Consider the ceiling height. If you have a 20-foot ceiling, you can select a taller fireplace size than if you had a room with an eight-foot ceiling.
Size and thickness of hearth stone or facing: If you’re using a three-inch thick hearth stone along with a four-inch tall stone, choose a dimension with a multiple of four inches plus the thickness of the hearth (example: Three (3) four-inch tall stones plus (1) three-inch thick hearth stone will give you a height of 15-inches.)
- Combustible mantel height: For safety assurance, combustible mantel fireplaces require a 12” clearance from the top of the face/trim to the combustible mantel. (Talk to an Acucraft Fireplace Advisor or see your install manual for additional clearance details.)
For every inch you raise the fireplace off the floor with a raised hearth, the mantel clearance will also move up (example: If an Acucraft Hearthroom 36 wood-burning fireplace is set on the floor, the minimum mantel height would be 52 ⅛-inches from the bottom of the fireplace. Now, if the fireplace is raised 12-inches, the mantle height would be 70 ⅛-inches from the bottom of the fireplace). If you’re planning on installing a TV above the fireplace, you’ll need to follow the mantel clearance for each model.
Hearth Height: Raised or In-Floor
Wood-burning fireplaces require a hearth, whether raised or in-floor to protect the area around the fireplace from combustibility. There are some clear advantages in choosing a raised hearth.
“Think about stoking your fire,” says Mike. “It’s a lot easier when the fireplace is on a raised hearth.”
Wood fireplaces are commonly built with raised hearths and for good reason. To start with, a raised hearth provides a cozy place to sit and enjoy the warmth of your fire.
Secondly, a raised hearth is a convenient place load a fire and to store wood and fireplace tools.
Finally, envision the view from various places within the room. A raised hearth showcases the fireplace by offering views from anywhere in the room and the fireplace is at a comfortable eye-level for viewing when you or your guests are seated.
What to Consider when Determining Your Hearth Height:
- Fireplace opening size: A smaller fireplace looks better with a raised hearth. A larger fireplace looks better when it is positioned lower to the floor.
- Ceiling height: Consider the ceiling height. If you have a 20-foot ceiling, you can raise the fireplace higher than if you had a room with an eight-foot ceiling.
- Your height: When loading a fireplace or starting a fire, a raised hearth provides a place to rest your knee while loading the fire. The most common hearth heights are from 12” to 18”. If you’re tall (over six-feet), choose a higher hearth size. The same thing goes for sitting on the hearth, if you’re shorter, choose a lower hearth height.
